I personally use the low-cost clear draw/shelf self-adhesive liner lamination paper on all of my dust jackets for simple protection and durability. This also is thin enough NOT to affect the folds at the spin and foldovers and keeps the dust jacket formed. That said - and as Corwin said - this stuff is actually made to be removable (and it is quite easy to remove if necessary) and it does indeed leave some space/air in between the dust jacket and the lamination, giving the impression of "lizard skin." It's supposed to do that so it can be removable. I personally think, if used on ALL of your books, it gives them all a nice, uniform style much like what you'd see at the library..and I kinda dig that...
