I'd say a better analogy would be when someone went from watching a worn VHS tape of a favorite movie to seeing it on DVD for the first time. I couldn't believe the colors, depth, and details that I was seeing. My grade: A+++

That's a great (and much more accurate) analogy, and I share your grade for this book. In fact, I'll go as far to say that to this point, the Simonson Thor Omnibus is the culmination of everything that has been improved upon from the dawn of collected editions. Yes, it's bulky and there's no getting around that due to its contents. However, as long as you don't mind reading a book that needs to lay on a surface, it's dam near perfect. I will enjoy this book for the rest of my life and pass it on to my oldest son (the biggest comic book fan among my three) when the time comes. That's a pretty rare statement for me to make with such confidence.

Perfect marriage of subject matter, creators, format, presentation, extras, and execution. As DanaMania said, A+++
