Just got this yesterday and am extremely impressed.  This is a truly magnificent tome - and, as far as the presentation is concerned, this may be the best collected edition I personally have ever seen.

Though I haven't read all of this yet, here is a brief review:

- IMHO, this is unquestionably the definitive Walt Simonson Thor volume - if you have this, you will not need anything else.  The extras alone are amazing: these include a new introduction by Walt, early b&w sketches, b&w & color artwork, Marvel house ads for the series, the cover of Thor Visionaries Volume 1 (2000) & the original introduction by Walt in that volume, the cover of a 1989 TPB reprinting some of these issues, all of the individual Thor and Balder covers reprinted in a small format on two pages, etc. Also, to answer the question a previous poster had, the Beta Ray Bill cover version (that I have) does indeed have the alternate Omnibus cover (Thor and Balder) in the very back of the volume as one of these extras.

- As has been discussed, all of the full-page covers have the titles/logos of the comics removed.  I have mixed feelings about this - in most cases, it's nice to see the full art on these covers.  However, the first issue reprinted is the iconic white cover with Beta Ray Bill slamming his hammer down and destroying the Thor logo.  Though the extras in the back of the volume (and the back of the dustjacket) reprints all of the covers so you can see a much smaller version of this particular cover, it would have been nice to have a full-sized version of this with the destroyed logo.  That being said, it's only one cover and doesn't really affect my enjoyment of the volume as a whole.

- To echo another poster, I'm also of the opinion that this volume could have easily come out without the forthcoming movie backing it up.  However, as everyone here knows, the trend at Marvel is to typically only release Omnibuses when there is an accompanying film (there have been some exceptions to this, notably the TOD volumes, etc.).  And, while I believe that this volume would have eventually come out sometime down the road, without the film, I don't think it would have come out this year or even next year.  So, though I have no interest in seeing Thor in the theatre, I'm very, very happy that this is being released so that we finally have this Simonson Thor Omnibus.
