LOL . Look,I'm sorry people are upset. But does it boil down to a phone call that wasn't made? Why is she so upset and trying to make this an issue?

My guess is Stephanie is speaking out more for her grandmother, John's widow, than for herself. For what it's worth, at the NYCC, I saw the author of this book (or perhaps someone from Hermes, I can't say) flashing an advance copy at John Romita Sr. in a bid to get his attention as father and son Romita were descending from the stage after their panel. It was probably to lend cred to pitch a separate Romita book project, I dunno. Hey, it's networking. It's how things get done. But I think to myself now, as this controversy erupts, how if he's able to get ahold of John Romita Sr., he ought to have been able to reach out to John Buscema's widow. My gut reaction, again to take it for what it's worth (which ain't worth much), is that he didn't reach out to Mrs. Buscema because he knew she'd have reservations about his project and not give her blessing. Better to not even try, in that circumstance.

I've talked with Stephanie on several occasions and I don't think she'd mind at all me reinforcing the notion that she is extremely protective of her grandfather's legacy. And she's definitely willing to stand up on behalf of John's widow when she perceives an injustice is being done to it. In my mind, that is neither wrong nor right, it is what it is and she is perfectly within her rights to speak her mind about it. Sure, maybe the term "crook" is a bit undiplomatic, but I don't think it's meant to be taken literally.

I'm not sure how many people are aware of how close Stephanie is to her grandfather. I mean, really close. He taught her how to draw, built her a little drawing table where she sat at his feet drawing while he was working on Avengers and Conan and Wolverine and everything else up until his death. When he died, she had become talented enough to be helping him with inking. It's a relationship she's reminded of every day, never more so than when she's turning in her own artwork to get published by Marvel.

I get the side that says, "It's an art book, that's all." But cut Stephanie and her grandmother some slack, too.
