It IS an "art book"--not designed to be a definitive biography of John Buscema--it IS a showcase for his artwork, backed with personal anecdotes from the professionals he worked with.

BUT even if it is not a biography, a "tell-all" about the subject, and even though the author and publisher are not legally obligated to inform and clear things with his family...

...AN OUTREACH OR CONTACT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTED.

...just to avoid the shock or surprise that might disturb survivors that are still sensitive about the loss!

Yes, they didn't have to. Yes, they definitely should have tried. We haven't heard from them yet--maybe they did try, but were unable to get through--we don't know yet. But according to Buscema's widow and granddaughter, they DIDN'T.

So his family is upset and disturbed, over a courtesy that may not have been done, either through ignorance or incompetence.  But what's done is done, the book is out. Let's just hope both parties can come to some kind of healing and settlement over this!
