Well now,  if this thread doesn't just scratch several raw nerves of mine...

This past year no SA omni's came out, that I recall, and in 2009 only X-Men volume 1.  As the Scarlet Witch would say, it's been a long spell.
I patiently await the coming of SA Avengers Omnibus. It should be announced sometime in 2011. I sold off my hardcover Masterworks Vols. 1-3 and have steadfastly resisted the siren call of the softcover versions.

Silver (Marvel) Age Omnibuses, especially that long-overdue Avengers Omni. with perhaps one notable exception (see below) are all that I'm really interested in having, save for this 80's item...

Does anyone think that there will be a John Byrne FF omnibus(s) this year (since its the FF's 50th !)
Heh. Over on his board Byrne started a thread b****ing about the Ron Garney cover on the SA CAP Omni  "Of course, NuMarvel had to piss on it to make it theirs"  Can you imagine the gasket he would blow if /when Marvel publishes a Byrne FF Omni with a varient cover by some other artist? There's no way in Hell Byrne himself would ever do a new cover for it, not with his current feelings about Marvel editorial.

it's a dual shame that Byrne, whose 80's work on that title was a spot-on homage to Lee and Kirby, and demonstrated  a respect and appreciation of Silver Age Marvel that the schlockmeisters who now run the company certainly don't share with him, may as a result: possibly not see his work collected in the Omnibus format, as his warranted criticism will certainly sting the PWB at NuMarvel; or b) he (and we) will see it collected, only to have its cover desecrated, not with an illustration that pays respect to his original work (as the earlier Brereton, Granov, Ladronn, and Ross variant covers showed for Kirby, Ditko and Heck) but by a self-indulgent piece of crap such as what denigrates, er, "decorates" the variant cover of the upcoming Kirby-Thor volume, by some current "artiste" whose work is all the rage of the several dozen consumers of Marvel's current, immortal output, and is narcissistically celebrating his (self-perceived) near-anonymous "greatness."  (At least, the Ron Garney cover for the Captain America Omnibus that he - rightfully - trashes on his web site is an attempted homage to the Kirby original - albeit an extremely poorly rendered one.)
