Can any superhero writer come up with a story that doesn't involve retcons? Granted, there have been some I've enjoyed (John's Superman, Morrison's Batman) but damn it if every story isn't built around 'everything you know is a lie'!!

Norse god of fear, eh?

Things can get a bit repetitive indeed.

If I'm remembering correctly, right around the Onslaught/Heroes Reborn era, the "Thor" title ended with the destruction of Asgard.
Then, when "Thor" turned into "Journey Into Mystery," the whole Lost Gods story dealt with the Asgardians having assumed human forms and their having to be found. That series end with the gods and Asgard being restored, only to have Asgard destroyed again at the very last moment of the series.

When Jurgens' "Thor" began, it was revealed that a heretofore unknown enemy, the Dark Gods, had broken free from imprisonment and were behind the most recent destruction of Asgard.

Then, with JMS and Fraction, you have the gods having to be found once again after having assumed mortal form, the destruction of Asgard, and a new menace: a new heretofore unknown enemy (more Dark Gods) now threatening Asgard.

And now a heretofore unknown enemy (the Norse god of fear!) is threatening the Marvel U.

Granted, the whole cycle of Ragnarok think automatically makes for repetition in Thor. As is the case with superhero comics in general.

I guess it's not the tale, but the telling of it, that matters most.

I'm looking forward to this. Don't believe the hype; just enjoy the story!
