Just got this new LOSH: Great Darkness Saga HC last week and am truly floored at the high quality - for all intents and purposes, this is the equivalent of an Absolute volume/version of these comics.   For $40, we are getting:

- Reprints of #284-296 of LOSH plus Annual #1.  So, a total of 14 issues.  And, one of the regular issues (#294) is large-sized.

- All of the covers are included.

- It's a HC.

- The physical dimensions of the book are larger than most other reprints.

- The book is reprinted on high-qualtity paper, not the regular newsprint-like paper that many DC reprints use.  Going along with this, the art reproduction/color  is superb.

- Extras including the cover of the original TPB, sketches, etc.

DC really pulled out all the stops with this volume.  In the past I have been dissapointed with the way DC has handled some of their reprints (i.e., lack of covers, sub-par paper quality, etc.) but this volume shows that they know how to put out a superior product if they want to.  I wish all of DC's reprints were handled in this way.

The only complaint I have (which is very minor) is that I'm not thrilled with the cover on the dust-jacket.  I would have preferred a variation of the original TPB cover (one of my all-time favorite original covers of a reprint collection) - however, I understand that they probably wanted to go in a new direction, which is why the cover art is distinctly different from the original .  And, this original cover is included in this volume, which is nice to have.

Side-note:  Earlier this year I was looking for the original LOSH: Great Darkness TPB, since I have never gotten this before.  I couldnt't find it since it was OOP, and I'm glad I wasn't able to.  This new version puts the old one to shame.
