Well, I will have things to like about vol. 4 but I have to say, personally, the next vol. they couldn't pay me to take.

A 3 part Wrecking Crew. Anytime they show up it seems like a fill-in story!!!

MTIO #7 and Defenders #20, ok these two issues are okay. Not worth a $55 HC by itself! These will probably be in a MTIO Masterworks someday!

Finally, Defenders #21-25 which is a Sons of Serpents story. Anytime these guys show up I know I'm pretty much going to snooze through the preachy and quite dated storyline!

'Course fitting in with #16 was GS Defenders #2 which will be included in vol. 3. No biggie.

However, at the same time of Defenders #19 and #22 was Giant Size Defenders #3 and #4 and THOSE will probably sucker me into the next Defenders vol. I'm a sucker for those Squadron stories Sinister or Supreme, and Grandmaster stories always have a campy bit of fun!

Hmm a 2 part Thing story and 2 GS's is that worth buying a $55 HC?

Ah well vol. 4 won't be perfect either. Thanks to owning that Guardians of Galaxy HC I'll just be buying it for half the material. sigh.

Anyway, at the rate they're going with these Defenders Masterworks vol. 3 will be another 3 years away so plenty of time to decide then!
Maybe it's just nostalgia talking because I read those issues new as a kid...but I think the  intro of the Wrecking Crew and Sons of Serpent storylines are a lot of good super-hero fun. I like Sal Buscema's nice clean storytelling.

I'm still going back and forth on whether I'm going to buy the second Defenders Masterwork, however. So much of it has been reprinted elsewhere already. But the historical completest  in me really wants the introduction of Nighthawk story and the Hawkeye joining two-ish run-up to the AD War. Can I find a way to justify spending $45 (after store discount) for just four issues? Especially when I'm looking at buying much of this content a FOURTH time when the Avengers Masterworks get there in a year or two. I dunno... But I tell ya, if Marvel had managed to squeeze in the HULK ish with Hawkeye that precedes Clint's joining the Defenders, that would have easily tipped the scales for me in favor of purchase!
