Well, if Shooter needed the job, I also think MOrt needed Jim's fresh take on the Legion. While Mort was exploiting that, he was also beating down Shooter's confidence to keep him from looking for work elsewhere. nice.

By this time, Weisinger had to have been concerned about talent flipping over to Marvel. The Marvel Age was in full swing. But come on, how would a 14-year old have the wherewithal to lobby for another job? You'd think it would have dawned on Weisinger that it would be more likely he'd send his teenage prodigy crying and hiding in the closet with his humiliation rituals rather than seeking another job at another company after being nice and encouraging to the kid. If he was going to be nice to anyone in the business, why not a 14-year old kid on the other end of a telephone all the way in Pittsburgh? Guy must have been a real bastard.

I'd love to get the full text of Mort's induction into the Eisner HOF by PAUL LEVITZ. According to Mark Evanier: "Paul Levitz, co-accepting with Weisinger's daughter, was particularly eloquent in...well, I'll say this bluntly: Particularly eloquent in explaining why an editor who was so notorious for being rough on his people was still deserving of the recognition for his amazing body of work."
