also do not like the DeFalco/Ryan Fantastic Four run... or the Avengers from the mid 90s, or Iron Man. Avengers and Iron Man crossed over in the mid 90s, when it turns out Iron Man had been a traitor controlled by Kang, Iron Man killed some Avengers, and died and was replaced by a teenaged version of himself.

Actually Iron Man fans reckon the early 90s was a fairly good time for Shellhead. The whole Crossing/Teen Tony mess was a major low point, but that was only one year. Before that was a very good Len Kaminski run which began with the War Machine story in 280ish and ran until 318. He took the trouble to explore new Armour paradigms like the Modular Armour and also delved more deeply into the issues involved in running a massive company. It's well worth a look. You can probably find most of the issues in quarter-bins.
I second the recomnedation of the Kaminski era.  It was a really bright spot for Iron Man before the Crossing.  And the Modular Armor while not conventional in design (Hello Iron-Pants!) was very cool and the way it was used was definitely something new.  There were some good crossovers with Force Works and War Machine and the art was raw but really fun and powerful.  From the original War Machine story to a little before the Crossing this was a very exciting time for Iron Man.

And don't forget the John Romita Jr. and John Byrne run.  That was very nice.
