also do not like the DeFalco/Ryan Fantastic Four run... or the Avengers from the mid 90s, or Iron Man. Avengers and Iron Man crossed over in the mid 90s, when it turns out Iron Man had been a traitor controlled by Kang, Iron Man killed some Avengers, and died and was replaced by a teenaged version of himself.
Definitely better in the 80s and from '98 onward.
Actually Iron Man fans reckon the early 90s was a fairly good time for Shellhead. The whole Crossing/Teen Tony mess was a major low point, but that was only one year. Before that was a very good Len Kaminski run which began with the War Machine story in 280ish and ran until 318. He took the trouble to explore new Armour paradigms like the Modular Armour and also delved more deeply into the issues involved in running a massive company. It's well worth a look. You can probably find most of the issues in quarter-bins.
The Kaminski run was fairly average.  On the pro side, the stories did try their best to explore new ground, especially in the areas of incorporating "modern" technological advances to the book.  However, the art by Hopgood (first half of the run) and Morgan (second half of the run) was sub-par, imo.  Afterwards, of course, we have the aforementioned Crossing/Teen Tony, followed by the equally absurd Heroes Reborn.  We get a reprieve with the two-year Busiek/Stern run (which is a bit overrated, imo, simply because it was book-ended by so much crap), but the Quesada run that closed out the decade also ranks among the worst Iron Man runs ever told (Y2K anyone?).  All-in-all, the 90's were a pretty fatal decade for poor 'ol Tony.
