Well, I replaced the intake valve and it was still running! It seems that the overflow pipe had corroded and was hanging on by a thread. I had a plumber come today, and fixed it for $97.50, but there was also a crack in the flush valve (probably caused by them chiseling out the overflow pipe, but I can't prove it). So now I need a new toilet!!! The real kicker? I need a 14" rough. The standard now is 12", so I have to either special order or find someone in town who has one. In the meantime, to keep the toilet from running constantly, I have to turn the water on whenever I want to use it, wait for the tank to fill, flush, and then turn the water back off.

The new toilet, because it's special order, will cost over $250, and won't be here until later this month. And just to top everything else off, the current toilet is 32" high. The tallest a new toilet gets is a little over 30", meaning there will be a gap between the top of my toilet and my wallpaper. It'll also expose the two holes where the current toilet tank is bolted to the wall. *sigh*

The current toilet is original to the house (which is one reason I hate to see it go), but I guess a new toilet every 72 years isn't too bad.
