I only really liked it in the late 70s era: the Cockrum/Byrne stuff was great; the sudden appearance of John Belushi was an instant classic, the four-parter with Shang-Chi and the Black Widow was terrific. Other than that, there are only a handful of issues scattered here and there from about #s 90-150 that really stand out. The series as a whole wasn't a dud--it just needed a firm guiding hand, which it rarely had. Contrast MTU to MTIO. The Thing was always very, very busy in the Fantastic Four, yet MTIO always had its own separate continuity--its own flavor. It always read like a Thing solo book in which dozens of other characters just happened to pop into his life. MTU always seemed so forced to me. But then, so did Brave and Bold and DC Comics Presents. MTIO--no, that was the one team book that always seemed to have its own identity away from its parent title.
