I was hoping for sexy woman in black spandex in SHIELD #1. Marvel has been doing a great job with a lot of female characters lately: Secret Warriors, Dark Avengers, New Avengers.

I guess I was hoping that's what this was about instead of a period piece explaining how SHIELD has existed through the ages, in spite of the James Bond riff that was so easy to understand.

Period pieces are a tough sell, mostly when they look like a guy struggling with a period piece.

Did you know that Ben Hur was an Agent of SHIELD, as was Sherlock Holmes, Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churcill?

See, to me Marilyn Monroe: Agent of SHIELD would be a good book. But what do I know?

PS: That Kirby page is bottom drawer Jack, but it never made print.
