Based on past experience, these things are typically structured by milestones.  The initial option is usually worth beer-money, but as the film advances through various milestones (i.e. official development, script completion, director casting, start of filming, release), additional payments are released.  My half-assed guess is that Millar made around 250k up-to-release, and has additional milestones based on box office performance (which could net him anywhere between an additional 250k to 750k depending on how well the movie does).
