one of the main reasons why Kane lost some measure of artistic interest in GL after the first couple of years is simply that he wasn't allowed to ink his own work to any degree (and he didn't like the inking that he was getting from Giella).

Thanks so much for clearing this up, Alizarin, as well as for your insightful, informative historical retrospective on this subject. And I agree completely with your suggestions about a different inker for Kane, as well as your point about what a great inker Kane would probably have been for himself at that point -- I've often looked back on his inking on that first GL Showcase issue in amazement.
