I agree that Jack got all he expected to get via the work for hire system.  The publisher had him over the proverbial barrel. Kirby WAS replaceable and had very few options for himself until he straightened out the money problem he had had with a DC editor that got him removed from that company's good graces. 

I don't see the need for ex post facto laws to give benefits to artists (and corporations) who didn't get them when they should have.

Now, corporations using their lobbyists and money to control Congress into rewriting the laws to their benefit, THAT'S a real threat to our system.
