I agree that the teacher-student aspect is more troubling here than the age difference (assuming that Jean was over 18). Such relationships are generally prohibited by codes of conduct at most universities and colleges.

That said, besides that early panel shown upthread, was there ever another hint of Xavier's love during Stan Lee's run? I thought it was one of those things that was quickly dropped, like calling Cyclops "Slim" Summers, and having the Beast's personality being a variation of the Thing's, rather than the intellectual that he soon morphed into.
