I think it's reasonable to characterize pretty much the whole of DC's production of the mid-1960s as flailing around wildly in search of a response to Marvel. There were a few well-done strips--Doom Patrol, Metamorpho, Eclipso at times, the Fox/Anderson JSA character revivals in Showcase and B&B, Enemy Ace--but for the most part, DC's attempts to produce mor econtemporary material just came across as embarrassingly clueless from about 1964 or 1965 until 1968, when Carmine Infantino came in as art director and Dick Giordano, Joe Orlando, and Mike Sekowsky took over a large number of books as editors.

Oh--one more really bad decision was taking Mys=tery in Space and Strange Adventures away from Julius Schwartz and making him take Batman and Detective. Bad for MiS and SA, that is. Especially for Adam Strange...:(
