Exactly, and that's the point I was trying to hammer home. Faith can definitely make a relationship stronger, but it's not necessary for long term success. Since marriage actually started out as a completely holy institution and has only become a legal institution for a relatively short period of time, I just wanted people out there considering it to know that it can work well either way, given that the commitment on both sides is, as you said, sincere and I might add relentless no matter what life brings.

Of course, the exception would be marriages where one party is getting abused in some way by the other. At that point, it's not a marriage anymore...just a dysfunctional, poisoned, potentially lethal cohabitation.
