I try to block that era out of my mind as much as possible, but it was a general feeling I got throughout the run. Lois just seemed to treat Clark like garbage. Lois should be a tough, no-nonsense woman, but she just felt frigid and uncaring during this era, and their relationship had a completely different dynamic than the Byrne/Jurgens era. I just couldn't feel the love.

I must say though, that as much as I hate that era, I'm looking forward to re-reading it after I finish my re-reading of Byrne/Jurgens. It will be interesting to see if I have a different take/appreciation of it now that it's part of history, and I know where it's going and when it will stop. At the time, other than some clunkers like Electro Supes, I was still loving the Byrne/Jurgens era. I knew it needed a creative boost, and when the new guys came in I was very receptive (although I was quite sorry to see Steve Epting go after the amazing, but all too short run he had). I was pleased with their first few issues until B13. I viewed Metropolis as a supporting character just as much as Lois, Jimmy, Perry, or Bibbo. It had developed a rich and colorful history over the previous 15 years, and it felt like a real place that could exist. It kept Superman grounded in the real world. Then B13 came along and changed it into a nightmare where everything was high-tech and futuristic. It didn't feel real anymore. That's where they first lost me, and it just went downhill from there.
