After reading a few more pages of the Will Murray introduction in the Omnibus, I'm confused about something. Burgos and Everett both say they conceived the fire and water idea during one session, with Everett saying that Burgos thought of a fire man before Everett then conceived the water man. But the first eight-page completed Sub-Mariner story was printed earlier in 1939 in Motion Picture Funnies Weekly by Funnies Inc. before Goodman even created Timely. My question is this: what magazine or company was Burgos intending to feature the Torch in, and when?? If Everett had created eight pages worth of his new character's origin, a character conceptualized after the Torch, then what was Burgos doing with his fire man concept in the time between that original, pre-MPFW character conference and Marvel Comics #1?

Also I want to say how awesome it is to see the first page of the Sub-Mariner feature in its B/W version from MPFW (reprinted as a thumbnail in the Introduction). It looks really cool in B/W, like a suspense/horror film where the Creature from the Black Lagoon is actually a man.
