A question about the Spirit, are volumes 6-11 not done at all by Eisner? Are 1-5 predominately Eisner before he went to war?
Here are my notes on vols 6-11, which are mostly based on Cat Yronwode's index:

Vol 6: This volume has four (4) Spirit stories (32 pages) that Eisner provided scripts and layouts for, with finishes by Lou Fine, as well as ten (10) pages of explanatory material by Eisner with some Joe Dope and Pvt. Dogtag war cartoons and other drawings. Most of the other stories in this volume are also drawn by Fine.

Vol 7: This volume has one (1) Spirit story (8 pages) that was written and drawn by Eisner, with two (2) additional pages of Joe Dope war pin-ups. Most of the other stories in this volume are drawn by Lou Fine.

vol 8: This volume has one (1) General Poop gag strip (1 page) written and drawn by Eisner, with three (3) additional pages of Joe Dope war pin-ups. Most of the stories in this volume are drawn by Lou Fine and Jack Cole.

vol 9: This volume has two (2) pages of Joe Dope war cartoons and other drawings by Eisner interspersed in explanatory information. Most of the stories in this volume are drawn by Lou Fine.

vol 10: This volume has five (5) pages of Joe Dope war cartoons and other drawings by Eisner interspersed in explanatory information. Most of the stories in this volume are drawn by Lou Fine.

Vol 11: This volume has two (2) Spirit stories (14 pages) that Eisner provided scripts and inks for, with pencils by John Spranger. Most of the other stories in this volume are drawn by Lou Fine.

But, yes, these were Eisner's war years.
