Nope.
Originally, before the COIE, Nightwing & Flamebird were none other than Superman & Jimmy Olsen respectively....The CURRENT duo of Nightwing & Flamebird running around the James Robinson Superman books are two different persons. (If you're not reading them, I would be spoiling it for you)

Did you ever try DARK MANSION OF FORBIDDEN LOVE or its sister title SINISTER HOUSE OF SECRET LOVE?
Both featured "novel-length" stories of Gothic terror, and had lovely painted covers by the likes of your homeboy Jeff Jones (ideally suited to the subject)...the first page, featuring the host Chastity (which would come back one day in Robinson's Starman series) were usually by Kaluta or Wrightson, so that was okay.
SINISTER HOUSE OF SECRET LOVE was more about the occult. Like DARK MANSION, the best stories were the ones by Tony DeZuñiga. I only knew him from those Savage Sword of Conan B&W tales, so this was a real eye-opener for me. His pages were moody and atmospheric.

And just for laughs, some Kirby

Thanks for the info folks, especially Kobe and his wonderful scans.

So basically Marv Wolfman lifted the name and costume from the Superman mythologies?
I am still collecting the Jame Morrison Superman collections but they haven't gotten up to this stuff quite yet.

I had actually already just tracked down the Dark Mansion (both iterations) on the Mile High site.
They look irresistably cheesy. The covers are marvellous and frontispieces by Kaluta and Wrightson are nothing to sneeze at, neither is vintage Tony DeZuniga, who was 10 times better than most artists he inked, with the exception of John Buscema.
The are horrendously expensive though.
Has this stuff been 'showcased yet'? DeZungia looks great in b&w. I wish DC would be inventive enough to do at least the covers in colour inserts, even if it means raising the prices a bit. This stuff would look absolute crap in b&w.

You want to watch it poking fun at Jack Kirby Kobe. Say what you like about religion and you can pretty much get away with it, but be remotely critical of King Kirby and people start lighting torches and sharpening their pitchforks...
