A couple things to remember: A lot of DC's Silver Age is formulaic and thus it's best served if you read them in doses. I'm a DC guy, and it's tough for me to read more than 3 issues worth of a single character in a row. Instead, I'll have 2 or 3 Showcases/Archives going at any one time, and will switch back and forth between them. (DC didn't really start doing the ongoing storylines in most of their books until the 70s.)

I'm a big fan of the JLA. But I would NOT recommend the early Archives, especially to a Marvel fan. If you really want to try JLA go for the Crisis JLA/JSA Team Up trades.

Ghastly - "Doom Patrol is highly recommended. Hawkman, Atom, and Adam Strange are almost as good. Hawkman, in particular, has held up well over the years."

Yes. What he said.

(BTW, I'm not the biggest fan of the Doom Patrol run, as it's just too Marvel-ish for me.)
