My Recent Posts
1) Superman from Action Comics #1 / In the back of one of the regular Superman comics, probably an 80pg Giant. I was captivated by it, wondering what the GA of comics was like since it was before my time.
2) Batman from Detective Comics #27 / See answer to #1, replacing w/ Batman comics...
3) Spider-Man from Amazing Fantasy #15 / I actually don't remember but I think I preferred the (then) current Romita version. Later on I discovered Ditko...
4) Fantastic Four #1 / Again, so many places, I don't remember. I thought the artwork was a bit crude vs. the Kirby I knew, making it look lots "older" than it really was to me. Still, I enjoyed the interplay between the characters originally vs. the current books I was reading. Impressed overall.
5) Batman (new look) from Detective Comics #327 / From the original back issue purchase at the time. I really liked the Infantino style but much preferred the then current Adams/Robbins/Aparo early 70s version of Batman.
6) Green Lantern/Green Arrow #76 / The original. Blown Away was my reaction to all of these issues.
7) Superboy (and the LSH) from Adventure Comics #247 / One of the Superboy giants...Always found these comics intriguing, even as a child.
8) Avengers #4 / I think it was the reprint from an early Avengers annual. Loved it as I was totally into the Captain America mythology at the time. I think I remembered some of this from the 60s toon that they used.
9) The Brave and the Bold #28 / An early JLA 80pg giant or regular issue that included it. I was always interested in what came before my time, but didn't really warm to the Sekowsky artwork then. Later on I had a much better appreciation for Sekowsky. I mostly liked him inked by Murphy Anderson back then.
10) Avengers #16 / Original back issue. Don't remember having a strong response here.
11) X-Men #1 / One of the reprints...Marvel Super Heroes maybe? Or was it in a later X-Men annual? I had a similar reaction to the one I had upon seeing the reprint from FF #1.
12) Thor from Journey Into Mystery #83 / Marvel Tales I believe. Similar to my reaction to FF and X-Men. I think I found the artwork a bit more interesting for this one initially though.
13) Supergirl from Action Comics #252 / One of those plentiful DC 80pg Giants of Action Comics I think. I liked this much more as a little kid.
14) Captain America (origin story) from Captain America Comics #1 / Probably The Great Comic Book Heroes first or second printing HC. Loved all the stories in that book, but preferred the current Kirby Captain America stories. However, it had that "classic" sense about it for me...
