Well, that Demi-Men story wasn't peak Marvel storytelling but I'd still take it over most of what had come before it, and the Steranko didn't hurt too much, either I got the impression Drake inherited a tough situation and then got booted before he really had a chance to sort it out. And he deserves credit, I think, for being the first writer that actually did things with Jean, first by actually acknowledging her new telepathic power (Roy introduced this, then handed the book to Gary Friedrich, who promptly ignored it completely), and by giving her a much stronger personality. Drake seemed to characterize her almost like a co-leader with Cyclops, which I thought was interesting considering the general treatment of female characters back then.
