Geez, I guess some comic book fans are like quantum particles -- they can be disturbed simply by being observed!

For whatever it's worth, I usually do feel bad whenever someone walks away from an exchange with me feeling insulted when that wasn't my intention (it usually isn't), and despite the obvious sarcasm in my previous post, I do try to do better. But in this case, I "knew this would happen" not because I was going out of my way to be provocative, but because I knew, I just knew, that somehow the simple act of citing what I have observed here as an example -- without any negative comment whatsoever! -- would somehow end up being interpreted as some sort of harsh personal judgment against. But I thought the example was justified and helpful in making my point, and mostly harmless.

I've answered many, many questions and offered many, many comments in discussions built around this very premise -- imaginary trade paperback collections -- and I've never once made a comment about that practice, disparaging or otherwise. (I still haven't.) I usually try to make my point without being dismissive of people, or the stuff they enjoy, and I think, more often than not, I succeed in that. (Unless it's Rom: Spaceknight, particularly that "Rom and Me" person. That's where I gotta draw the line.) I try not to be deliberately insulting, but I don't always make allowances for the thin-skinned, sorry.

If you could explain how you've come to draw some sort of subjective (and obviously negative) judgment from what I wrote, I'd probably be more inclined to apologize. (All I'm getting so far, though, is "Hrummph!")
