I have to say, I'm continually bemused -- that's bemused, not amused (quick, to the dictionary, before someone feels maligned!)* -- by the way some people take what are essentially broad observations and find a way to feel personally insulted by them.

And you know, I sort of knew this was going to happen, even as I was typing the words -- but no insult was intended, I went out of my way to make sure the words I chose wouldn't be misinterpreted (I tried, at least)**, and I honestly don't think that's at all an unfair characterisation. (I think even here, many would agree that people who do this are more toward the extreme edge of the audience for comics than the median.) So I went ahead, anyway. Que sera sera. (I hope those of you who fall elsewhere within the range of people-who-read-comics got a sense of what I was getting at.)

* That's me being patronizing, by the way, for those of you keeping score at home. (Ooops. That last bit was probably me being patronizing, too. Sorry!)

** Perhaps next time I ought to further clarify such statements with Roy Thomas-style footnotes: "immerse" meaning to involve deeply or absorb, "minutae" meaning precise details, and "imaginary" evoking the much-beloved term "An Imaginary Tale," used by DC for so many years, et cetera et cetera. Just to avoid any possible misunderstanding.***

*** (Ooops. See comment above.)
