I don't expect DC will make any substantial departures from custom with the Chronicles, even with Silver Age material. Those books may seem to sell reasonably well (well enough that DC continues to publish them, at least), but at $20 retail, it isn't as if DC is making a great deal of money (see above), and every dollar spent producing them just thins out the margins a bit more.

I don't know, I used to believe DC when they told us "we are never going to do Essentials" and look at DC now,
the market keeps on changing fast, TPBs are taking over floppies, digital in on the horizon and phone book size reprints are
popular, who would have guessed any of that 10 years ago?
And beside a TPB is a TPB I see no difference between another classic Batman TPB or what ever TPB collection, and coloring a Showcase
cost the same as coloring any other TPB, as long as DC keeps on publishing classic reprints a color Showcase is not so far fetched
an idea.
10 years from now, Chronicles might start running dry and DC will look at all that black and white Showcase
and some editor will come up with a new concept "Hey guys how about a color Showcase?" And before you know we got the new flavor
of the month.
