Well, the pro sports teams from Boston comes from something really simple and silly. As a six year old one of the big rages in 1st grade were those little plastic football helmets you could get for a quarter in a gumball type machine sitting outside a grocery store. Many of my friends had gotten them and I wanted one. So of course I get this neat looking helmet with a Minuteman in a 3 point stance (the old Patriot logo) and that was my team from then on. Picked the Red Sox and Celtics without knowing their history (one bad and one great) in the mid-70's so that wasn't front running.

FSU is simple: I live in Florida so it was either the Gators or the Seminoles (the Canes are South Florida, a completely different animal altogether) so I picked the Noles. Duke is because I had relatives that attended and I have roots from that area (North Carolina and southern Virginia). So there you go. But I've never picked one team to root for because it was the dominant team at that time. Never have done that and I never will. Duke didn't win their first national title until after I was rooting for them. Same for FSU. So no front-running from me on any count.

Gary "you have to understand that living in central Florida in the late 60's and early 70's growing up, there weren't many options so most everyone rooted for teams from other states" O.
