Okay, last month I proposed that Jack was treating these modern-day Captain America stories like a technical exercise in the use of the medium. Well, this issue there's a perfect example of what I meant. Take a peek at the almost mathematical precision of this page layout:

Just for fun, I wanted to see what would happen if I photoshopped the reader's obvious sight lines on top:

How about that--almost a perfect "Z" moving the reader through the page. I particularly love how the row of the spectators in the upper right lines up perfectly with the star on Cap's chest in the middle panel. Kirby sure had this down to a science.

And, as for the story this issue . . . how about those layouts?! Once again, it's just pure action. And men in funny matching jumpsuits. (Can anyone with the original comics or a GIT DVD tell us what the original colors of these jumpsuits were in last issue and in this one? ) I did like the "in medias res" opening. It totally threw my older son off guard. When he saw the splash page, his eyes bugged out and he shouted, "Hey! Isn't there a back story here?!"
