Time travel stories can be interesting, but this one really left me a bit cold. Nothing worthwhile is done with the concept, Immortus just plucks different fighters from different periods, sends Rick Jones to Ye Olde England and then in the end Enchantress is able to undo everything by shifting back time. Wow! That's some pretty impressive power there, why didn't she put it to more effective use before?

In the beginning we see Cap battle Thor, Iron Man and Giant-Man for 47 seconds, and the whole scene is pretty impressive. We get the feeling that he really is a born warrior. (Or at least he was made into one!) But how stupid is Rick Jones? There's an ad in the back of a comic book, and he believes it!! What's more, given the typical production cycle of comics, at least two, probably three months pass between the first meeting of Immortus and Zemo, and Rick Jones coming to look for his superhero powers. Unless Immortus had a special printing prepared just so one of Rick's friends would find it and show it to Rick. But there's no indication of that. And if he did that, what was inside? Did he pay decent dollar to the creators? Did he give them royalties, even?!?

How come Zemo or one his cohorts knows who Immortus is? (But they don't recognise him by sight?) The fighters Immortus chooses from the past are pretty lame, and the Avengers don't have great difficulties in defeating them.

My old Masterworks from back in the day does not have this nice Cap pin-up. Also, the colouring is completely different, glad I got to to read these stories in Avengers Classics as well.

Oh yeah, Gene Day had a letter published in the issue. He's gushing about various Marvel titles, and says "Around my school Marvels are top choice!"
