Those are great points, Adam. Before he ever gathered his gifted youngsters, Xavier would have been better advised to put only himself at risk and try acting as a public relations man for good mutants in general, educating the populace and proving by his own public example that there is such a thing as a mutant who is a good person.

Wouldn't be much of a series, but we can still analyze Xavier's character in the literature we do have and conclude that he was unwise in this. The other scenario might make a good What If?.
