Yep. I could not STAND that cover strategy by DC. It just degraded their heroes, who were once so great during the Golden Age. Thankfully O'Neil, Adams, Giordano and others helped turn things around at DC.

But the above Adventure cover is a big reason why I was a Marvel Zombie as a kid. I started buying comics around 1970....and my dad had a set of silver age Marvels and DCs from the early to mid 60s. Those comics were my first exposure to both companies' respective universes.....and guess which one made the biggest impression on me? And which one turned me off?

Fortunately, Dad also had several Golden Age reprint sources for DC.....and I actually liked what I saw from DC in the 30s and early 40s. But most of the National/DC stuff from 1950 to 1966 or so is just really tough for me to take.......especially in the cases of the Superman and Batman books. Green Lantern and The Flash were pretty cool in those years, I suppose.....but the Superman and Batman stuff? Yikes....what were those guys at DC thinking? Incredible.
