All right, let's see, back on topic.

Personally, I was REALLY against this run when it started. To me "Joss Whedon" was code for "uber-hip and ironically cool dialogue", the kind of stuff churned out by a rising generation of writers whose main influences were old comics, the '80s, and the internet. The dialogue in the first TPB made me wince, and the callbacks to better days were painful. "Oh look it's a fastball special but with a twist of some sort. Yay wow."

And the "Kitty and Colossus finally have sex" scene was almost embarrassing. To me, it was the ultimate fanboy act on Joss' part.

But I really started to like it as it went on, and the larger story started to develop. I got drawn into the story of what was going on with Emma, and I'm STILL waiting for some future writer to notice, and follow up on, the very clever bit of misdirection Joss threw in about Cassandra Nova's real plan.

The uber-hip nonsense was still present through the entire run, but as I got used to it I was more able to enjoy the story beats and the pacing -- and oh sweet jesus, the lush lush art.

When it wrapped, I found the end quite bittersweet and touching.

And, since SOMEONE needs to answer my question: I didn't like the fact that they DID resurrect Colossus -- and I have yet to see him do anything desperately important since his return to convince me that he's better off alive ... but as resurrections go, it was fairly well-done, especially his post-incarceration anger issues.
