Re Rockman - i agree that there was no pressing need to change his origin but i also think it was left ambiguous enough for a future writer to change it. Heres a supposition for you - suppose the 'Big Bad' behind this is as some have speculated - Mind Master Excello. For undisclosed reasons, maybe to do with his powers, Excello led the others to what he knew was going to be their entry to suspended animation.
His powers were to do with seeing the course of events but maybe he sees probability lines and is trying to change something. When they awaken, Excellos powers go into overdrive and he realises that whatever bad thing was going to happen is still going to happen so he starts to manipulate events - telling Phantom Reporter that 'one of us is going to die' could be a way to start off events derailing whatever 'dire threat' he forsees revolved around this bunch of heroes.
Another might very well be hiring an actress to go to the General with a phoney story about Rockman's origins, designed to drive Rockman to self destructing. Rockman's army might well appear to save the day ...
All speculAtion of course but a writer can choose to go anywhere he or she desires that makes sense in the context of the story being told. Of course, this logic would also dictate that additions and changes can be made to past stories, showing events we believed to be true in a different light.
Namor acting, NOT LIKE a foreigner thats BECOME Americanised, but like someone who grew up in the culture and surroundings of American NOT Atlantean life, does not fit with the Namor we have known for over 40 years. Otherwise i have to wonder if the old Atlantean palace had a big screening room where Subby chilled out, keeping up on his baseball stats!!
Bearing in mind i only have the first two GA Subby Masterworks and the first two Marvel Mystery Masterworks so i've only seen a small percentage of ALL GA Sub Mariner - i have to assume that there are LOADS more references which indicate that the Sub Mariner was a Yankee born and bred because THAT is how he was written for those wartime sensibilities!! Furthurmore, his persona was a departure from the one he had in 1940 so which is true? The 'Its comics and we see the real personalities and events in Invaders and other modern retellings' works best for me. After all, the events aren't being denied in all but about 2% of all cases - we're just being asked to believe the same events took place in a more realistic, believable and in some instances, less silly way.
