I'm not too bothered about the lack of a slipcase.
It's certainly easier on the old wallet this way.
Who knows, maybe Dark Horse will eventually sollicit a slipcase.

I do hope DH fast tracks these volumes because I've almost finished volume 1 and I love it, even more than I remember.
The huge pages really enhance the larger-than-life, Kirbyness of Mignola's artwork.
Let's face it, a book dealing with a big red demon and all kinds of Lovecraftian nasties works on a big canvas and NEEDs to be big, BIG, BIG!

I am amazed at the change in Mignola's artstyle between the first two story arcs as well as IMHO the huge improvement in art AND writing.

The first story arc; Seed of Destruction was cool but nothing remarkable.
It was with the second story arc; Wake the Devil, that Mignola found his true voice and metier.

Only someone with Mignola's style and sensibilities could get away with lines like:
"Speak quickly! I am aching to destroy you!"
"Oh, I would cut open the world to see it bleed."

I also adore Mignola's insouciant characterization of HB himself.
Lines like:
"Fighting monsters is how I keep my girlish figure."
Or my favorite one from issue 1 as HB is hurtling to earth like a runaway missile because of a faulty jetpack:
"New and improved, my ass!" image
