Richard Widmark died March 24 and didn't even get a popcorn fart of recognition. He was every bit the equal of his contemporaries, Heston, Peck, and Douglas.

Four of my favorite actors ever of their period, and they're all gone now - two of them in two weeks - except for Kirk Douglas.

I always thought Widmark was one of the most underrated of the major stars. I remember being impressed when Sidney Poitier said Widmark was one of the finest men he ever knew, in a documentary about him several years ago.
