I agree - if Idol wants these people to be more relevant, then they need to get some relevant mentors in there. The kicker is: who in today's business wants to spend the time tutoring their potential competition on the charts? Answer - very few folks.

Sure, we had Gwen Stefani last season and Mariah Carey this season - both who still hit the charts. But for country, why not someone current (heck, even Carrie Underwood would be a help)? For rock, they could have used Chris Daughtry - if he didn't hate the Idol experience and divorce himself from the process as quick as he could.

I guess the key with the older mentors is that these are folks that have endured for decades - they know how to have a lasting career. They are time proven. Me, personally, I like the older mentors just fine.
