Oh man, when I was a kid in the '50s, Lone Ranger was THE MAN - and the man was Clayton Moore! I met Mr. Moore in 1976 when he came to town to benefit the local children's hospital burn unit. He only appeared in full costume so as not to ruin the illusion of being the Ranger. What a nice, nice gentleman! After going through the line for an autograph and an opportunity to thank him for all the hours of enjoyment he's given me over the years, I stood off to the side just to watch him interact with the crowd. He was ceaselessly pleasant and patient with us over-aged fans. When the news crew from the local TV station arrived, Mr. Moore filmed a promo for the hospital event. At the end he drew his six-guns, twirled and spun them like he did 25 years earlier, slapped them back in the holsters, and finished up with a Lone Ranger salute. The crowd went NUTS!! I went through the line a second time just to speak to him again. When I got up to the table, he glanced up, gave me a suspicious "Old Prospector" squint, and said in that cantankerous voice, "You again!" Well over an hour after I'd talked to him, with all the people who passed by since then, he recognized me. How cool! I've never before or since gone so ape-sh*t over meeting someone. The Lone Ranger was one of my greatest heroes, and to me Clayton Moore was and always will be the Lone Ranger.

Awww, I was enjoying your post on Clayton, an idol of mine as well, and you drop that line into your otherwise wonderful paragraph? I know Gormmy's been busy but that clearly violates policy here for thinly (forgive me) masked obscene words. Everything you've ever posted (save for some temporary insanity regarding the world's greatest hero) indicates you're articulate, educated, and better than that.

A. Leedom, who remembers ... those thrilling days of yesteryear!
Doesn't remember much else, though. Durn electroshock therapy...

Hi-YO, Silver ---AWAY!!!

Sigh... I always had to play Tonto in the backyard being like 1/32 Indian. I do remember my favorite line though. "Whatdaya mean 'we,' Paleface?"
Used my neighbor's German Shepard as Scout. I don't remember Scout ever biting Tonto in the ... well... behind... though.
