It used to be that superheroes would get introduced in one costume and then very, very rarely they would change said costume. Superman started out in his red, yellow and blues and kept it for decades. Batman had a design back in the 40s, it was tweaked later on to add the yellow oval on his chest.
At Marvel the Fantastic Four began life with NO costume, but their familiar spandex appeared very quickly and the first variation came when the Human Torch switched to a bright red version in the early 70s.
For the most part super do-gooders kept to their standard union suits for years, but slowly but surely artists started taking more chances and nowadays there probably aren't any long-lasting characters who don't have many different suits in their closets. Most of them depended on their artists as they could go from awesome to ''good ghad what the heck is that?!?''
Let's celebrate our favorite characters and show what we think is their best prom outfit (on the left), and what could be their worst fashion faux-pas (on the right):
(beautiful and sleek Alan Davis design, with colours that POP!) (I love Kirby, but those colours, shoulder pads
( His TBolts costume sleeked down many Come on, do I really have to elaborate?
variations to the bone and popped it)
(say what you will but the safari Whoever designed and approved this
jacket is still seminal Wonder Man, but were doing something or other when
this energy version is cooler than cool) they came up with it....
The newer armour version is still I wasn't reading many Marvels back then
attractive, but this one with the beard ,but this thing should get it's designer flogged!!
just sings! (from the Godpack era, IIRC)
(The Stealth armour...There are many (From the worst season of Power Rangers, no?)
other eras that I like, but I'm still quite
fond of this one...
