The BuZZ at DC
My approach to sampling new comics nowadays is to wait about two years and to keep an eye on the buzz concerning the most interesting, innovative or just plain entertaining comics. This allows me to separate the chaff from the wheat.
To be honest, the only really positive buzz I have picked up on at DC lately is anything by Tom King; the Omega Men, Batman and the Sheriff of Babylon.
Scott Snyder's Batman also still seems to get a lot of praise.
Response to Gerard Way's 'Young Animals' seems very mixed and nothing has really piqued my interest so far, except 'Cave Carson'. I have a lot of affection for the Doom Patrol and I am inclined to give it a try, but nobody seems very enthusiastic.
Vertigo also seems to be completely dead.
What else from DC/Vertigo do you think should be on an interested reader's radar?
I'm not suggesting you tailor your recommendations to my tastes, but my favourite modern creators are; Ed Brubaker, Rick Remender, Warren Ellis, Scott Snyder (but not unequivocally), Mignolaverse and I also really like what they have been doing over at Valiant since the NuValiant relaunch.
I'm going to start similar threads on the Marvel and Independents boards so please direct your relevant recommendations there.
This is just for DC.
Thanks in advance.
Irony and subtly are the first casualties in the eternal battle of wits between people divided by a common language. So read between the lines or you'll fall through the cracks...
