My perfect world, assuming that Russ can't handle this project anymore, is for Fantagraphics to get the rights, discontinue the small size b&w, and finish the color Archives by picking up, going forward, and then circling back. Far and away the best Archive project on the market today is the Bark's Archive. DH has put out too many sub-standard Archives for me to entirely trust them. EC should be easy to Archive because high quality linework exists, and all that is needed is the addition of color.

We can only hope that the response to the Fantagraphics releases is strong enough for them to pick up the series again. The fact that they picked up the reprinting of Krazy Kat right were Eclipse left off and then went back to reproduce the earlier volumes after reaching the end bodes well for this possibility. Save us Fantagraphics. You are our only hope.

Remember when there was a long gap and then that one came out and how excited we all were because we thought the series was back on track? Vault of Horror 2 & Haunt of Fear 1 were to be the next two scheduled for release by Gemstone all those years ago. These were to be followed by Tales from the Crypt 4 & Weird Science 4. Most of the editorial & pre-production work for Vault 2 & Haunt 1 was already completed by Gemstone before the financial difficulties caught up with them in 1929... er, I mean 2008 (same sad story, different year - but the true underlining cause of our sorrow regarding this matter). There was very little work left to be done on these volumes before they went to the printers. I imagine "GC Press" had hoped sales would be successful enough to raise enough revenue to produce subsequent volumes. Although keep in mind that any future volumes would be a much, much larger undertaking than the work that they had to do to get the first two out. Some skeptics have suggested the possibility that there were never really plans to produce any further volumes but we were led to believe it only to ensure sales for Vault 2 & Haunt 1. It is suspicious that these were seemingly rushed out immediately before the Fantagraphics series was to begin. The truth is that fewer of us would of purchased these volumes if we knew that was going to be the last of them as they weren't the most anticipated of the series (wouldn't we all rather have had Weird 4 & Crypt 4?) and it got out pretty quickly that the printing quality was inferior, which we might have accepted if the series was going to be completed, but these volumes aren't essential just on their own. The slight size difference makes them ill fitting and they kind of stick out on the shelf like the stereotypical bastard step-child to the extent that one is almost tempted to separate them from the others. If the series wasn't going to be completed in this format, many of us would have decided to fore go these "stragglers". It is unfortunate that the rights for these weren't given to Dark Horse as the entire series, including Panic, would probably be near completion by now.
