I liked what I saw and I was hoping to read more and I thought the Madman gargantua hardcover would be great place to start. Does anyone know how the overall quality of the story and art in the older madman comics compares to the newer issues? Are the older comics better? Worse? About the same?

You pick up the three Madman TPBs from Image, Madman and The Atomics, the two Madman Atomic Comics TPBs, and try to find the old Superman/Madman Hullabaloo TPB, and you'll be set. See, the Gargantua only reprints everything (minus the Superman crossover) before Madman Atomic Comics, so you'd have to go out and buy the Atomic Comics TPBs anyway. Plus, with the TPBs, you're getting all the same material, except cheaper. Plus, if you pick up the first couple Madman TPBs, and don't like 'em for some reason, you're getting off cheaper than committing to a big $125 hardcover. Oh, and I love the old stuff. Original, creative, was responsible for Freakazoid.

They were an extremely gracious and kind couple, and spent an incredible amount of time talking with everyone that came their way. I highly recommend anything they work on. Madman Gargantua covers: - Madman 1-3 - Madman Adventures 1-3 - Madman Comics 1-20 - Madman Super Groovy King Sized Special! The original trades for all these are oop, however, I believe that Image has reissued all of above in new trades. Madman Gargantua does NOT have: - Madman/The Jam - Nexus meets Madman - Superman/Madman Hulabaloo 1-3 The Superman/Madman Hulabaloo (collects the 3 issues) and the Madman Boogaloo trade (which has the Madman/Jam and Madman/Nexus issues) are both oop. Neither are that difficult to find, either as tpbs or as back issues. (yup, just checked eBay, plenty on there) - Madman and the Atomics recently came out as a tpb. It covers The Atomics 1-15 (a spin-off of Madman) - Madman Atomic Comics is the current series and ends with issue 17. It's all available in tpb. If you are a hardcover aficionado, then you need to go with the Madman Gargantua book. If you are looking to just read the stories, then the new trades are fine. BTW, the first two minis (first 6 issues overall) were in B/W, but the rest of the stuff is in color. Madman Comics 1-20 is the most mainstream, straightforward stuff, as Madman Atomic Comics has a lot of artistic exploration. There were also several different hardcover versions prior to the Gargantua version, and you can find these on eBay. But if you're willing to go to that trouble, you may as well just go with the Gargantua version. Best of luck, and welcome to the odd world of Madman. Posts: 6293 Aug 8 09 11:43 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yeah, Image released the contents of the Gargantua volume in 3 TPBs. the three TPBs will save you about 50 bucks as opposed to buying the HC. But, if you're just determined to go with HCs, the Gargantua is the way to go. But, everything else is TPBs, so your shelves will look all weird.
