I received an email from IDW that my Wally Wood’s EC Stories Artist's Edition has been shipped. Since I only live about 30 miles from IDW, it should be here in the next day or two.

" ... And we talk it out. Lately, I've had Roy Thomas come in, and he sits and makes notes while we discuss it. Then he types them up which gives us a written synopsis. Originally-I have a little tape recorder-I had tried taping it, but then I found no one on staff has time to listen to the tape again later. But this way he makes notes, types it quickly, I get a carbon, the artist gets a carbon...so we don't have to worry that we'll forget what we've said. Then the artist goes home...or wherever he goes...and he draws the thing out, brings it back, and I put the copy in after he's drawn the story based on the plot I've given him. Now this varies with the different artists. Some artists, of course, need a more detailed plot than others. Some artists, such as Jack Kirby, need no plot at all. I mean I'll just say to Jack, 'Let's make the next villain be Dr. Doom'... or I may not even say that. He may tell me. And then he goes home and does it. He's good at plots. I'm sure he's a thousand times better than I. He just about makes up the plots for these stories. All I do is a little editing... I may tell him he's gone too far in one direction or another. Of course, occasionally I'll give him a plot, but we're practically both the writers on the things. "

My copy arrived yesterday and it has now taken the title of largest book I own away from Wednesday Comics... by a large margin! I will try to get some pictures up later today.

Greg, please confirm that the book is 22" tall, as I've ordered a special 23" cabinet to hold this (and my Sunday Press Little Nemo books)... Thanks!

Shagbag - I measure the book at 22 1/2 " tall, so you should be okay.

Thanks for that taste! I'm sporting Wood!!! BTW, since we're getting into minutia here...your copy looks in very nice shape. What method did you have it shipped by and would you say IDW has protected the book well in it's packing style? Is it better than how Amazon packs things? A tome that size is bound to get heavily banged and bent by our noble postal servants very easy, it looks like. Can you give us the lowdown on your experience? TIA!!!

It was shipped media mail, which is what I'd imagine these are all going out with. My situation is a bit unique in that I only live about 30 miles from IDW so my package didn't have to travel very far, but I'd say the packaging is certainly adequate. It's double-boxed, the book is in a box and then that is in a bigger box with some styrofoam peanuts. It is quite big and fairly heavy though, my postal carrier used a hand truck to deliver it.

I need to find some place to store this thing now.

I hope you don't mind my wondering how you got this so quickly, even with you living within 30 miles of IDW. This is now supposed to be out on the 15th or even the 22nd. I had mine pre-ordered in August. Are you associated with IDW in any way?

I'm really not trying to be a smartass, I'm just curious.
