In the end, everyone wins, the fans get more of the material they crave and the S&K legacy lives on. Don't let him get you down, Michael. The book looks great, I love Fantagraphics books, and I can't wait to purchase it. Although I already have the Crime book Titan put out, I'm getting more and more turned off by this guy following you around on the internet.

Amazon.ca now says it's to be released in July of 2012 - sheesh! http://www.amazon.ca/YOUN...id=1326206143&sr=8-1 ... well it saves the post christmas stress on my wallet at least. I'm still looking forward to it, though. Is this one of those cases where they're going to release it through Diamond months before Amazon?

Larry, the person who runs the Fantagraphics store in Seattle, is very reliable. He told me that the book has been printed up and unless something has suddenly come up over the last few days I see no reason to doubt him. If anything has changed I let you all know.

I look forward to Young Romance regardless of when it comes out -- I'll be keeping my eyes open for it Jason

Henry seems to be making a reasonable request: Stop marketing the book as if it was authorized or approved by Joe Simon. As Michael admits his book it is unauthorized, I think the proper thing for him to do is to accede to Henry's request. Sounds like Henry never wanted to make this dispute public. Michael's info that Joe allegedly was "thrilled" when he saw the original incarnation of the book is both (1) second hand from an email from an unspecified Dark Horse employee, and (2) lacking some context even if true (e.g. was Joe thrilled that a fan took the time to self-publish 20 copies of a book on his work or thrilled that a publisher was going to put out an unauthorized edition of his work that he wouldn't provide him or his family any profits and which would compete with books he intended to put out? I can believe that former, but the later seems harder to swallow.) But, if the material is public domain, then there is no legal problem with Michael putting the book out. Most of us will judge the book on its substantive merits. It looks like a nice package.

What Joe Simon was allegedly (according to Richardson) "thrilled" with was, as Michael explains, a book of with a print run of "20 copies through 'Print on Demand'" which Michael "gave free of charge to friends and peers in the animation and comics industry." Being "thrilled" with a limited publication fan effort given away for free is far different than being "thrilled" with a commercially published book issued five years later. So using Joe Simon's alleged statement to help market the current book seems tacky to me, and I can understand why he was asked to stop doing that. Again, I think he has every right to put out a book on public domain material and I plan on buying it. But, he shouldn't say things which imply that Joe Simon authorized or approved of the book.

I did not realize that these were his feelings. Now that I understand this, I will certainly not make the same mistake again. It was not my intention to make it sound like the book is authorized, perhaps I should have made that clearer in the interview. I'll make sure to try and express myself better in the future.

If content has lapsed/fallen into the public domain, then it was up for grabs. No buts about it. Kudos to Mr Gagne for making an awesome product - it shows all sorts of hard work and love of the subject on his part.
