I would much rather have an annual Daredevil than UXM. DD is in his prime with the Colan art and UXM is in the period when it was slowing starting down the path that led to confusing story lines, characters just appearing and being accepted like they were lifelong friends and repetitive story lines just using other characters as the feature character!!! It got so boring and confusing that I forced myself to buy thru issue 200 hoping things would get better, but no such luck. DD, OTOH, really started to get more and more interesting (except for the brief one issue story line rule from Stan) and in a few volumes we will get to the inclusion of the Black Widow as a co-star!!! Alan The Insane!!!

BTW: I would NOT turn my nose up to annual Daredevil releases, certainly not at this point when Colan was getting soooooo good.

Well its not a book that I plan on purchasing, I think it would have been a little to much to ask to get Warlock vol 2, Sub-Mariner vol 3, and then get Shield
vol 2 or Inhumans vol 1 all in one year.

Something very new for the Omnibus line. What could THAT be...? (It ain't Iron Man if that's what you're thinking.)
I hope by "new for the line" you don't mean new as in something from this decade! I assume you mean something not already in Masterwork form. And i guess we (me included) shouldn't complain about Iron Man vol 6. At least the program is alive and well. |

wants Uncanny X-Men every year before I can make any guarantees."
What about the guy (ME!) who wants a DOCTOR STRANGE Masterworks every WEEK?

Having a hard time understanding why anyone is unhappy with this release. It's good to see Iron Man more or less back on track after so many years of MM
neglect.

As a nine year old kid who was very critical of the artwork in comic books I stopped collecting IM early in the Tuska run. I loved Gene Colan's work but
Craig and Tuska were a big dropoff for me at the time. I have Masterworks No. 5 but I haven't read it yet so I'll reserve judgment on purchasing No. 6
until I have.

Very happy to see Iron-Man volume 6 - by my reckoning this is the 9th Marvel Silver Age series to make the transition from the 60s to the 70s. There are some
good stories in this volume - role on volume 7 which has some even better tales!

As a kid i never got over the change from Colan to Craig/Tuska. Never went back to IM. Preferred reading the reprints of older issues to inferior, IMO, later
issues.
I know I'm odd. I just want the stuff from my childhood and am not a completist. I see why this was ahead of some other titles but picking this over Sgt Fury or Dr Strange to me is marketing. They want to sell an Omnibus vol 2 in 2010 and you need a sixth volume to do so. They have all the volumes they need for Spidey, Thor, Avengers, X-Men, etc., future Omniboo, but IM was hanging at 5 and IM is a hot movie franchise now. I hope they follow the promised Shield Vol 2 with a quick vol 3 so we can get an Omnibus of that---perhaps in time for a Shield Movie? Oh, and it's not 'unhappy' with the pick---it's uninterested. We know they're going to M'work ALL the 60s stuff, but we don't have to get excited about every pick along the way. We got a good explanation of why is wasn't Shield and that's fine, but to be excited about a below-par volume like this is a tall order. if someone started collecting during this run I can see why they'd be excited. But this was a step down from the previous colan volumes by most folks thinking.

Some nice Romita artwork if it is...
Somehow I doubt that "Pussycat" comment was a hint. Too bad. Still, LOTS of things would be new to the omnibus world. There has never been a Golden Age omnibus, for example. But then there has never been a humor omnibus either...why not NOT BRAND ECHH!? Since some sort of collection has been planned (and I SURE hope it isn't an essential) then this certainly would fit the bill. Another BIG surprise and a new area of exploration would be any of the licensed characters...my vote would automatically go to Doc Savage of course. But I predict that won't happen. |
