I thought we should put the MLB 2009 thread to bed and start an official "off season" one. Hopefully, it catches on!

So what say ye about all the possibilities that lie between now and the opening of another glorious season of baseball?

Manny has already signed back with the DODGERS and, in the most unsurprising move of the century so far, the PHILLIES resign Cliff Lee. Talk about a no-brainer!

Anybody been watching the WSOP on ESPN? What a ride this year's been. Some of my favorites like Negreanu and Phillips have bit the dust, but there's a couple of guys I'm pulling for on the final table (next week). Missed "V" premier on TV tonight; is it rebroadcast?

We had stuff going on with a nephew tonight, so I forgot to tape the premier of the new "V" aliens TV show.

Dang.

Does anyone know if it's going to be rebroadcast on ABC or maybe a cable network before next week? I know I can watch it online after Sunday, but I'd rather watch it on the big ol' TV with the stereo speakers, you know?

I can't get TVGuide.com or ABC-TV.com to tell me. Dang.

Since we seem to get a new MLB thread every year for each new season, I wanted to see if there is any interest in a permanent thread where we could talk about the history of the game.

A good starting point for anyone newly interested in the history of baseball is Ken Burns's nine-part "Baseball" miniseries and the accompanying large tome.

Anyway, maybe a thread like this will help get us through the winters when the game's not being played.

I got back home from Afghanistan a little over two weeks ago. I hope you'll forgive me if I devoted nearly all that time since I came home to my family and didn't post to this board immediately upon my arrival home!

My early childhood was 'way back in the first half of the 1950s. In the family "library" (a too-fancy term for our paltry collection of books) there was a multi-volume collection of myths, legends, fables and fairly tales. It was published in the '30s, had mostly well-done b+w line-drawings with a few color plates interspersed.
